As a part of our 35th anniversary year, Taste of the South will be supporting military and veterans based charities.  This year’s featured charity is the Patriot Foundation, located in Pinehurst, NC.  Established in 2003, the Patriot Foundation is an all-volunteer 501c3 non-profit committed to providing college scholarships to children of servicemen and women who have been killed, wounded, or injured since 9/11.

The Patriot Foundation has been recognized by the Southern Pines Pilot as a “winner” that “touches many lives” and has been praised by former Commanding Generals of the 82nd Airborne Division, the XVIII Airborne Corps, and U. S. Army Forces Command who characterized their support as “invaluable.” Additionally, General Ray Odierno, former Chief of Staff of the Army, stated in September 2011, “You represent what I have never seen to this extent before: a dedication to our soldiers and their families and an appreciation for the sacrifice that they have shown over the last 10 years.”

Since their inception, the Patriot Foundation provided over 1,200 college scholarships, child care for spouses who need to return to school, and direct financial grants to children of fallen service members. Taste of the South is proud to support their commitment to honoring those who have given so much in service to our country.

As a way to give back to our adopted hometown, TOTS is proud to support a DC based charity as well. Hero Dogs, Inc., featured recently on CBS This Morning, improves the quality of life of our nation’s heroes by raising, training, and placing service dogs and other highly skilled canines, free of charge, with lifetime support of the partnerships. These dogs are available to Veterans from any branch of the military, any era, even peacetime. Supporting Hero Dogs is one way to help our Veterans who, for the good of others and the betterment of society, have sacrificed so much.

A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to 12 additional charities across the South.  They are:
